Diamond Affairs

The Directorate of the Diamond Affairs is the national establishment aimed at protecting the diamond industry of Namibia from illicit activities and to promote the diversification and integration of the industry into the rest of the economy in order to maximize its contribution to the socio-economic development of Namibia. Its core function is to control and monitor diamond exploration and mining activities and diamondiferous concentrate movement systems and processes within Namibia, in order to ensure that the country derives maximum benefit from the exploitation of its most precious mineral resource


The mandate of Diamond Affairs is to protect the Diamond Industry of Namibia from smuggling and other illict activites and to promote the diversification and integration of the industry into the rest of the economy in order to maximise its contribution to the socio-economic development of Namibia.

OBJECTIVES

  • To ensure the effective and efficient control of handling and transportation of rough diamonds in Namibia.
  • To ensure effective and efficient monitoring of diamond prospecting, mining and downstream activities.
  • To ensure that the valuation and sale of Namibian diamonds meet international acceptable standards.
  • To ensure Namibia's compliance with the Kimberly Process certification Scheme.
  • To promote Namibia as an investors friendly destination for diamonds industry investors.
  • To preserve the image of Namibian diamonds.
  • To promote the growth and stability of the Namibian down-stream diamond industry.
  • To promote and facilitate sound working relations within the diamond industry.

In order to provide efficient services to our clients, the directorate of Diamond Affairs is decentralized with regional offices at the Erongo and Karas regions located at Swakopmund, Luderitz and Oranjemund towns.
