Namibian cement producer, Ohorongo cement on Monday donated 720 bags of cement to the Omusati Regional Council at Outapi.

The donation of the 50 kg bags came as part of the Silver Jubilee Independence Celebrations, where Ohorongo committed itself to donate one truckload of cement to each of 14 regions of Namibia.

According to Ohorongo’s manager for administration Rodolf Coetzee, the 750 bags of cements worth a million dollars is also aimed to act as contribution towards the general development of Namibia.

Coetzee says Ohorongo will donate 36 tons of cement to each region. The cement donated will be availed to schools, community projects, to a maternity shelter and various projects in the region.

Through the Office of the Prime Minister, the governors of each region have been tasked to identify projects within their regions that could optimally utilise the donated cement.

“This is not the first investment of this kind into Namibia by Ohorongo, as the company has already invested more than N$6.5 million for corporate social investment into the country since its inception,” further explained Coetzee. Ohorongo further says it is very proud of the fact it has a 98 percent Namibian staff complement in such a short time and that it creates additional jobs through support services and downstream activities. He said even though Ohorongo is still an infant within a brand new industry, it diligently strives to continuously contribute towards Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and it supports Government initiatives like vision 2030, growth at home and NDP4 to affect change.
